Since 1976

I have dedicated my work to the craft of hardwood flooring. At M B Kubisek, I provide homeowners throughout Connecticut with custom hardwood floor installation, refinishing, replacement, restoration, and detailed architectural flooring designed around the character of each home.

For me, hardwood flooring has never been simply about covering a surface. A well crafted wood floor becomes an important part of the architecture. The species, plank width, pattern, color, proportions, and details all contribute to how a room looks and feels.

After nearly five decades in the hardwood flooring industry, I bring extensive practical experience to every project. Whether I am installing wide plank white oak in a renovated home, creating a custom parquet design, or carefully restoring an older floor, my goal is the same: produce work that enhances the home and demonstrates lasting craftsmanship.

A Commitment to Hardwood Flooring Since 1976

Experience matters when working with hardwood.

Every floor presents different considerations. Wood species behave differently. Older homes can contain materials and construction methods that require careful attention. Custom patterns demand precise planning. Existing floors may need to be evaluated to determine whether refinishing, restoration, repair, or replacement is the appropriate solution.

I have been developing that knowledge through hands on hardwood flooring work since 1976.

Over the years, styles and flooring products have changed, but the fundamentals of quality craftsmanship remain important. Careful preparation, accurate installation, thoughtful design, and attention to detail continue to determine the quality of a finished hardwood floor.

That experience also helps me approach each project with a creative and strategic perspective. Instead of treating every floor the same way, I consider the condition of the property, the existing materials, the desired appearance, and the long term goals of the homeowner.

Custom Hardwood Floors With Individual Character

One of the defining aspects of my work is custom hardwood flooring.

I work with homeowners who want their flooring to contribute something distinctive to the home. That may mean selecting beautiful wide plank flooring for a clean and timeless appearance or developing a detailed pattern that becomes a central architectural feature.

"My custom flooring capabilities include parquet, herringbone, medallions, borders, geometric designs, wide plank floors, and other decorative layouts. I also work with all types of hardwood species, depending on the design and requirements of the project.

Custom flooring requires more than choosing an attractive pattern. Scale and proportion are important. A design that works beautifully in one room may need to be adjusted for another space.

I consider how the flooring relates to entrances, walls, adjoining rooms, architectural details, and the overall style of the home. The objective is to create a floor that feels intentional rather than added as an afterthought.

Preserving Historic Hardwood Floors

Connecticut has a rich collection of older and historic homes, and their original hardwood floors can be an important part of their character.

I have experience preserving and restoring historic wood flooring with careful attention to the existing material. Older floors may show generations of use, previous repairs, surface wear, damaged areas, or changes made during earlier renovations. Determining the right approach requires experience and a respect for what is already there.

When preservation is a viable option instead of practical, I work to maintain the character of the original floor while improving its condition and appearance.

Historic hardwood restoration is different from simply removing an old floor and installing something new. Original flooring can contain dimensions, materials, patterns, and natural aging that are difficult to reproduce. Preserving those qualities can help maintain the authenticity of the home.

My experience with both restoration and new hardwood installation allows me to evaluate each floor individually and recommend an approach based on its actual condition.

Craftsmanship for Luxury Homes and Detailed Projects

Luxury hardwood flooring is defined by more than the cost of the material. The quality of the finished result depends heavily on craftsmanship.

Beautiful hardwood of any species still requires thoughtful installation. A wide plank floor needs to complement the proportions of the room. A parquet or herringbone layout requires precision. Borders, medallions, and geometric designs must be planned carefully so the details look balanced within the surrounding space

These are the types of projects where experience becomes especially valuable.

I enjoy working on flooring that requires a higher degree of detail and individual attention. My objective is to create a finished floor that enhances the architecture without overwhelming it.

Whether the design is understated or highly decorative, I focus on workmanship that allows the natural beauty of the wood and the quality of the pattern to speak for themselves.

A Personal Approach to Every Flooring Project

M B Kubisek is built around individual craftsmanship.

When you contact my business, you are not approaching a large flooring operation where your project is simply passed from one department to another. I take a personal interest in understanding the floor, the home, and what you want to accomplish.

That approach is particularly important for custom work.

Before determining the right direction, I consider what you like about the existing space, what you would like to change, and how the flooring should relate to the rest of the home. If an existing floor is involved, its condition also needs to be evaluated before deciding whether refinishing, restoration, replacement, or another solution makes sense.

My role is to bring decades of hardwood flooring knowledge to that process while keeping your goals at the center of the project.

Hardwood Flooring Services Across Connecticut

I provide hardwood flooring services to homeowners throughout Fairfield County, Middlesex County, New Haven county, New London County , and surrounding communities.

The homes I work with can vary considerably. Some homeowners are updating traditional interiors. Others are renovating historic properties where preserving original materials is a priority.

Contemporary homes may call for wide plank European oak or white oak, while another property may benefit from custom parquet, herringbone, borders, or a distinctive geometric floor.

I tailor my approach to the property rather than applying the same flooring solution to every home.
